Famous shipwrecks of the cape It is said that the first name given by the European sailors to what we now refer to as Cape Town or the Cape Peninsula, was ‘The Cape of Storms’. With good reason, as the winter storms are more accurately ‘tempests’. It was also described, by Sir Francis Drake as…
You have indeed been very wonderful for us by taking us to the most interesting places in CPT. If it were not for you, we wouldn’t make it all by ourselves and for that you really deserve a compliment.
We just wanted to say thanks again for shepherding us to and from our activities in Constantia. We were especially grateful given the bad weather. Please look us up if you’re ever in New York City!
Hi there Tours du Cap!
We are back at home after our wonderful trip through South Africa and it all went too fast! Thank you so much for making our time in Cape Town so special – your tours were great and we will be recommending you to friends who are planning a visit for next year.
Tours Du Cap produced a most insightful tour of the Peninsula once again. Most enjoyable of all, our tour guide Francoise, made it feel like we were touring with a friend in the drivers seat.
Thank you Tours du Cap for a wonderful day.
Thank you so much Françoise for a lovely and memorable experience in « Winelands ». I enjoyed the wine, the scenery, and the conversations!
On my first trip to the beautiful country Francoise took me around the Cape Peninsula and had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the country and made it such a memorable experience! A must-hire to truly get the full insiders experience by a tour guide who knows the ins and outs and take you to places you might not get to on your own accord! Thanks for the forever memories Francoise!
My husband and my two youngest daughters and myself have just had a short break in Cape Town. My husband used to live in South Africa and knows there can be « difficult » areas still around so we opted to book a Tour Guide via the Hotel. Francoise Armour met us from the Airport with a friendly greeting. During the half hour or so trip to the hotel we learned that she was going to be our guide for our two days outings that we had arranged. The car was very clean and comfortable and she was a good driver (very important as I am not a very good passenger!).
Francoise advised us to book our tickets for Table Mountain in advance to avoid delays and extra queuing at the attraction – good advice indeed! Francoise arrived promptly at the agreed time on the day of our first excursion and was very chatty about the local news and various traffic difficulties that the area was having recently, and apologising for it taking a bit longer to get from A to B. It was a very hot day (high 30s) and the air conditioning in the car was very welcome. She was very good at filling us in with the history and events affecting the areas we were passing through and kept us up to date with recent problems with the political problems that were going on – which were quite amusing!
At the top of Table Mountain she would point out local flora and fauna and various historical anecdotes and her knowledge caught the attention of some other tourists who took the opportunity of asking a few questions about surrounding areas – to which she was very happy to help them out.
We lunched in a little Cafe in Companies Garden, in a beautiful setting and the food was extremely good – again recommended by Francoise. Delivered back to the hotel tired and educated.
The following day we decided to eat out at Camps Bay, the hotel arranged for Francoise to collect us and she also picked us up and didn’t keep us waiting and was able to get really close to the door of the restaurant.
Final day trip was to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope, again prompt pick up, car beautifully clean and cool and efficient and beautiful route to the attraction. Francoise had taken the opportunity of booking a place at the restaurant at Cape Point for us as she said it gets busy – and she was right – we did have a table and the food was good. She pointed out the different opportunities available to us at the attractions and that she would be able to meet us at the end of whichever we decided to do. The day ended with a trip to Boulders to see the penguins – again, this was Francoise recommendation as we didn’t know they were even there – such a great idea – they penguins were magical and you can get really close without disturbing them – Thanks for that Francoise I think that was actually the highlight of our trip (David and I have actually been to Cape Town before!)
Then, all too quickly, it was time to go home and again, spot on time Francoise arrived to pick us up and take us back to the airport.
We felt, during the short time we spent with Francoise, she was extremely knowledgeable and shared her knowledge in a way the whole family could understand – it wasn’t like she was reciting facts that she’d learned and was bored with the job – she clearly enjoys her role and so we enjoyed our trip and felt she was almost a part of the family where she fitted in so well.
Thank you so much Francoise and all the best.
2 years ago, I chose to go on a wine tour with Francoise…our experience was so wonderful we couldn’t wait to go with her again when we returned this year. Both experiences were tailored to our needs. She has excellent knowledge of wine and the wineries and has introduced us to many places that we would not have found ourselves. Tell her what you like, and she’ll make it happen! (For us, it usually involves lunch-wine pairings, bubbly tasting, chocolate-wine pairings, ‘quirky,’ or interesting wineries) She was very patient on this latest trip, as there were 15 winos, but she encouraged us to have a great time and was very patient. She also problem solves well if something does not go as planned (such as 2 people missing the starting time)
Francoise does many other types tours as well and will surely create a memorable experience. Her tours don’t feel ‘boxed’ as she is very flexible. She will find out what you need and tailor the tour to your liking…feel free to be creative, as you’ll have a great time! By the end of the day, she will feel like an old friend and you’ll be planning your next trip with her. (Especially, when you pay her, as you’ll feel like you didn’t pay enough for the service you received…her prices are very reasonable!)
I travelled with a friend to South Africa in February for a friend’s wedding. Apart from visiting friends we wanted to see more of the area. We were recommended to get in touch with Francoise to organise a day tour. We drove to Cape of Good Hope and Boulders beach with her. It was a wonderful and insightful day in full comfort. Francoise is very good and considerate guide, who I would highly recommend for relaxed sightseeing of the area.
Francoise was great from start to finish. I communicated with her via emails from London and she booked the hotel, transfers, private tours, township tour and tickets for attractions for my parents trip. They said she was attentive, trust worthy and excellent at explain everything. She did everything she could to make it a trip of a life time. Francoise also emailed after each day to let me know what was going on and that all was ok.
Francoise was absolutely fantastic! We had very little time and wanted to see as much as possible without being too stressed out. Tours du Cap was the perfect option for us – we were able to truly organise a bespoke private tour that just catered to our needs. We picked what we saw, when we saw it and for how long without being rushed – the tour was very flexible. We highly recommend it!
We just wanted to let you know that we had a thoroughly lovely time touring Cape Town and the wine estates with you. You are very knowledgeable and made it very interesting with your stories and information. Cape Town is a beautiful city and we will be back for another visit.
